Irish Bouzouki

I’ve been making the Irish bouzouki, alongside guitars, from the start.
I got my start very much by going to folk festivals and showing my work, seeing the work of others… and was immediately introduced to some amazing players of these instruments.
I love the instrument, its newness, and variation seems to add something to tradition. Something to take part in.

-          Pin bridge design
The pin bridge version of the instrument I make is essentially a guitar design. Although I make the soundboards somewhat differently… Apart from the teardrop shape, a flat symmetrical bracing under the x brace seems to make a sound I like.

-          Floating bridge design
I use a ladder brace with a reverse fan underneath for this design.. That seems to work to keep the top flat under tension, and give the full sweet treble sound.
There are many versions of this design by many great makers… this is my one.

-          Scale length choice. 577mm, 623mm, 650mm, 660mm
